A decorated and highly trained officer, his experiences include assignments in high-priority units as a Homicide Murder Detective, an Internal Affairs Sergeant and Homicide Murder Sergeant for the San Antonio Police Department, an organization employing over 1,500 officers. Cole honorably retired from SAPD after 26 years, but he also served other communities as a Detective, Criminal Investigation Division Commander (Lieutenant) where he also conducted employment background investigations, a Captain that oversaw the Investigations Division, and finally as a Chief of Police.

As a Detective, Cole was involved in the investigation of hundreds of cases that resulted in many successful prosecutions. He has investigated a wide range of cases, specializing in murder, capital murder, and other violent crimes.

As a Sergeant in the SAPD Internal Affairs Unit, Cole conducted investigations into officer’s misconduct allegations. He also performed administrative reviews of officer involved shootings to ensure department investigative and use of force standards were met. Assigned as the Unit Administrative Sergeant, Cole reviewed, charged and coordinated all unit investigations. He was specifically selected to conduct investigations involving high profile and high-ranking police officials. In 2002, Cole was selected by the SAPD Chief of Police to participate with the FBI in the International Public Corruption and Internal Control Seminar held in Managua, Nicaragua. Cole participated the 2007 National Summit on Use of Force held in Arlington, VA.

In 2008, Cole was brought back to the Homicide Unit where he then supervised and coordinated homicide and officer involved shooting investigations. He led an elite seven-person team of active murder detectives, supervised the shooting team and ran the cold case murder squad and cold case volunteers. Cole was instrumental in several detectives achieving 100% yearly clearance rates.
